Security Window Film FAQ — Impact Guard Toronto

Frequently asked

Questions worth asking. Answers worth trusting.

Everything we get asked, in one place. If your question isn\u2019t here, call us. A ten-minute conversation answers more than a vague paragraph ever could.

01Before you book

Three things that speed up your assessment.

None of this is required, and we can walk your property cold. But if you have a rough sense of scope and timeline before we arrive, the assessment goes faster and the quote is tighter.

Know your openings

Roughly how many windows and doors you want assessed. Exact numbers aren’t required.

Know your timeline

When you’d like the install scheduled. We plan around your availability.

Know your context

Residential, commercial, or vehicle. We tailor the assessment to the environment.

02The questions

Ten answers we give most often.

We update this list as new questions come up. If you want something specific to your property, the assessment is where those conversations actually happen.

01

Will I see the film on my windows?

+

No. The film is optically clear. From inside or outside, a protected window looks the same as an unprotected one. It doesn’t tint your glass or change the way your windows look.

02

How long does install take?

+

We finish most whole-home residential installs in a single day. Storefronts take 2 to 4 hours. Larger properties and multi-unit buildings run over multiple sessions.

03

How long does the film last?

+

The manufacturer warranty is 10 to 20 years depending on product. Real-world lifespan on a properly installed job comfortably meets or exceeds that.

04

What makes your install different?

+

We bond the security film to the window frame as a system, rather than just sticking film to the middle of the glass. That anchored install is the single biggest differentiator. It’s what turns a film job into a measurable barrier. The full technical walkthrough is on the How It Works page.

05

Will it lower my insurance?

+

It might. Some commercial clients have seen premium reductions after handing their UL-972 install documentation to their broker. Canadian carriers like RSA, Aviva, and Northbridge recognize burglary-resistant glazing as a risk-mitigation measure. We provide everything your broker needs. Results vary by insurer, policy, and risk profile.

06

What does it cost?

+

We provide fixed, written quotes after an in-person assessment. We don’t publish pricing because every opening, frame type, and property is different. We’d rather give you an honest number in person than a bait figure online.

07

Do you service my area?

+

We serve Toronto, Scarborough, North York, Etobicoke, Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill, Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton, and surrounding GTA communities. Not sure about your address? Ask.

08

How should I think about what the film actually does?

+

Security film is designed as a deterrent and delay system. It gives you critical minutes. That’s enough time for an attempt to get abandoned and for a response to reach you.

09

What about automotive?

+

We install anti-smash-and-grab film on driver, passenger, and rear side windows plus the rear window. Not the windshield. Automotive film is a tier-2 product and doesn’t reach the resistance of our building installs. What it does is defeat spring-loaded glass-breaker punch tools and make your vehicle a much harder target than any other car on the block.

10

Can I DIY this?

+

No. The film itself is available, but the install process (surface preparation, cure environment, tooling, and the anchored technique at the frame) is what makes the system work. A DIY application won’t give you the protection of a proper install.
