Security window film FAQ

Not with clear security film. It is optically clear, so from inside or outside a protected window looks the same as an unprotected one. Tinted, solar and privacy films are different by design: they darken, reflect or frost the glass, and many make it hard to see in from outside during the day. We bring samples to the assessment so you can see exactly how each option looks on your own glass.

We finish most whole-home residential installs in a single day. Storefronts take 2 to 4 hours. Larger properties and multi-unit buildings run over multiple sessions.

It depends on the property and on which face of the glass the film is mounted. On homes, our warranty is lifetime on interior installs and 10 years on exterior installs. On commercial properties, interior installs carry a 16-year term. Interior film is sheltered from UV and weather, which is why it carries the longer term in both cases; exterior film does the harder job. Real-world lifespan on a properly installed job comfortably meets or exceeds the warranty term. Your written quote states the exact term for your job.

14-mil security film on the interior face as standard, with an optional 8-mil exterior security film as a second layer for maximum protection or where the inside can’t be filmed. Both come from established manufacturers like Madico and Solar Gard. It carries the UL-972 rating, the North American standard for forced-entry resistant glazing, which is the credential insurers recognise. The 14-mil spec is a step heavier than the 12-mil industry standard. Both manufacturers have been producing professional-grade architectural and security films for decades, and their products are the ones insurance underwriters recognize.

It might. We have seen cases where premiums came down once UL-972 install documentation was in front of the broker. Canadian carriers like RSA, Aviva, and Northbridge recognize burglary-resistant glazing as a risk-mitigation measure. We provide everything your broker needs. No. The film itself is available, but the install process (surface preparation, cure environment, tooling, and the anchored technique at the frame) is what makes the system work. A DIY application won’t give you the protection of a proper install.
